Sigfrid D. Soli, Ph.D

Dr. Soli is Vice President, Technology Transfer, and Head, Department of Human Communication Sciences and Devices at the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles. His laboratory develops and evaluates hearing diagnostics, assessment procedures, and devices for individuals for hearing impairment. Dr. Soli was previously a member of the Biosciences Laboratory, 3M Company, where he developed cochlear implant and hearing aid technologies. He was also an Associate Professor of Psychology, University of Maryland. He is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, and a previous Chair of its Speech Communication Technical Committee.
Dr. Soli has conducted collaborative research throughout the world on hearing assessment and device technologies. He has collaborated to develop speech tests for clinical use in 13 different languages, including Mandarin, Cantonese, and Taiwanese Mandarin.
Dr. Soli’s expertise is in the area of speech and hearing science, prosthetic devices, behavioral assessment of speech communication, and translational research. He has been an advisor on hearing aid research to the US National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and to the US National Research Council on functional hearing assessment. He has also served as a consultant to the US FDA’s Ear, Nose, and Throat Device Panel.

Dr. Soli has over 40 publications, over 20 patents and copyrights. He has made over 150 published abstracts and presentations at conferences in America and overseas. He has been an invited international guest speaker at a number of conferences overseas, most recently, The 2009 Chinese University of Hong Kong Ear, Nose, and Throat Conference: Functional Restoration in ENT, Hong Kong, China, and The 2009 Asia Pacific Symposium on Cochlear Implants and Related Sciences, Singapore.
